One Giant Leek for Mankind at Oakgrove Primary

A reading by author, illustrator and comedian, Olaf Falafel, from his recently published new book, ‘It’s One Giant Leek for Mankind’, enchanted and highly amused pupils at Oakgrove Primary on his visit to the school.
The book, which was inspired by the 50th anniversary of the 1969 moon landing, is aimed at children aged 4-10 years. It starts off faithfully documenting the historic events, but then this lunar adventure soon develops into a story that includes giant vegetables and moon baboons, all designed to appeal to its younger audience.
Oakgrove Primary and Nursery School’s Headteacher Mark Sim was delighted to welcome Olaf to the school, as part of the author’s mission to visit 50 schools in 50 days. He said:
“Oakgrove pupils listened intently to Olaf talking about his work. He read his book aloud and also gave the children a masterclass in how to draw illustrations.
“The author sparked their interest in the Apollo 11 lunar voyage, although the children did realise that there is no evidence of leeks growing on the moon, either now or in 1969.”
