Bedtime Storytelling Evening Captures Pupils’ Imaginations

Bedtime stories 1

23 January 2019

Over 50 teddy bear clutching, pyjama wearing pupils, parents and teachers let their imaginations run wild at Kents Hill Park Primary School’s first-ever evening of bedtime storytelling.

Designed to engage and inspire the creativity of the pupils and to help promote reading between parents and children at home, readers told aloud stories of adventure and tales of magical lands, whilst cups of hot chocolate were enjoyed by all.

Creating a relaxing reading environment, teaching staff had set up tents and dens with twinkly lights, which added to the atmosphere of the fun and entertaining evening.

One storyteller, Assistant Headteacher Mark McGarvie, was delighted with the number of families that attended, he said:

“We were thrilled that so many of our Year 3s and their families ventured out on a cold and dark January evening to join in with the sharing of stories. They were able to use their imaginations to visualise the characters and the storyline in the books for themselves.

“Reading at bedtime to a child, not only opens their mind to creative fiction and to the world around them, but it also helps to improve their communication and literacy skills.”
