Middleton is in the top 3 per cent of schools in the country for its achievement in the 2023 Phonics Screening Check. This outstanding result has been acknowledged by the government with a letter from Damian Hinds, Minister for Schools.

Middleton’s success in teaching phonics and early reading, which gives its pupils a firm foundation and a lifelong love of reading, was highlighted in the Minister’s correspondence. Not only was he delighted with the school’s results, but he also praised staff and pupils for their commitment in this vital area of early education.
