20 December 2019

In recognition of Oakgrove’s exceptional sporting achievements in 2019, the school was presented with Sport MK’s Secondary School Award at this year’s ceremony.

The annual event is held to acknowledge outstanding amateur achievements in sport, either through personal performance or through a contribution an individual may make as an organiser and administrator to the development of participation or standards of performance.

Over the last year, Oakgrove has won many of the MK District Schools leagues, including basketball, football, netball and badminton and the Year 7 netball team was selected to represent Milton Keynes at the Bucks County School Games.

Head of PE at Oakgrove School, Stephen Green, was delighted to accept the award, he said:

“I am extremely proud of the hard work and dedication that Oakgrove students demonstrate in our after-school clubs and when representing the school. This commitment, with the additional time and effort that the PE department puts into running sporting activities and fixtures, has meant that the school has gained recognition for such an exceptional year of achievements. They are all to be applauded.”

Congratulating the PE Department and pupils on their tremendous achievement, Headteacher Ian Tett said:

“Oakgrove School offers an array of sporting opportunities for its students and all aspects of physical education are taught inclusively with an emphasis on learning and enjoyment.

“From rugby to basketball, from cross country to trampolining, all students have the opportunity to get involved in an extensive range of after school clubs and competitive fixtures.

“We are overjoyed to receive this well-deserved award.”
