Natural Sciences at Cambridge, Law at Oxford and History at Durham are just some of the exciting paths of further study students will be undertaking, following excellent A level results achieved at Oakgrove.

“Our students have had an extraordinarily anxious wait for their grades, but we are delighted that a fantastic 37.5% attained A* – B, said Oakgrove School’s Headteacher Ian Tett.

“We will, however, be looking carefully at each subject to ensure that students have not been disadvantaged by the exam boards methodology used to calculate student grades and will lodge appeals where necessary.

“Staff truly sympathise with students, in what has been a challenging time, not only at Oakgrove, but around the UK. With the abrupt end to in-school lessons, no exams to sit and recent changes to the appeals procedure, all in all it has been an extremely unusual year for sixth formers leaving school.

“Oakgrove students worked tremendously hard in their studies before and following lockdown to complete their coursework to a high standard. I must commend them for their commitment to strive to achieve, which began in earnest before they joined Year 12, and has continued throughout their education in sixth form.

“I am proud of Oakgrove’s staff who worked exceptionally hard to get the grades right for all of our young people and who have been unfaltering in providing academic and welfare support. I appreciate too the fantastic support the school has had from parents, when unforeseen and difficult decisions were necessary.

“I wish all of our students leaving us this academic year the very best of luck in their further study or in employment.”

Oakgrove School provided exam boards with A level and vocational assessment grades and a rank order of students by their expected performance in each subject. To ensure standards were aligned across all schools and colleges, grades were standardised by the exam boards, using a model developed by Ofqual.

Students have the option to accept each of their moderated A level grades, appeal through the school to receive a valid mock result or sit exams in the autumn.
